Our family has a little holiday tradition that some may think to be odd. We fly to Tel-Aviv at the beginning of the season and study the culture there. This season we decided to watch Israeli cinema and learn about the language. We have been staying with Ben and Mishka for the time being. My daughter is fascinated with Israeli "New Sensitivity" cinema. My preference has been the films from the new century because of their production value and increase in star power.

Before we left the house in New Jersey we set our home security alarm (HERE). The food has been to die for here. Marsha always forgets how much she loves to eat lamb. I prefer Egyptian food to Israeli food but for some reason this year's Israeli cuisine strikes home much more than I am accustomed to. The films we have studied have given us a new reason to celebrate the varied culture of the Israeli people. Ben and Mishka have given us space when we have needed it and have taken us to all of the best markets in the area. We are hoping to avoid going to the Gaza Strip once we have left this year. The violence has simmered down but it is better to be prepared for anything possible event that could happen. I am eager to celebrate Christmas.
